Summer's End

That summer, many were gravely wounded or seriously ill. The old man helped in the little ways he could manage. And he began to practice total acceptance. “Life as it is,” he said when asked. He no longer voiced opinions for or against anything. The old man taught his great heart to love people, places, and things as they were; not as he might wish them to be. He lived one day at a time, doing the tasks that were in front of him without concerning himself with things beyond the scope of his understanding. – from The Old Man at Summer’s End by Rich Seeley
